The presentation in what follows is intended to provide extensive coverage of topics pertaining to classificatory and hierarchical models. The emphasis is on models that are primarily linear in nature.
The material is formatted as though it constitutes the initial portion of an additional chapter of new material in Volume 2 of Linear Models and the Relevant Distributions and Matrix Algebra: a Unified Approach. At present, Volume 2 contains a single chapter of new material; that chapter is numbered Chapter 8 as though it were an additional chapter in Volume 1 (which contains 7 chapters), and the equations (and other results) in that chapter are numbered accordingly. That approach (including the numbering scheme) are extended to the presentation herein of the additional new material by regarding that material as though it constitutes the first portion of a Chapter 9.
Also included in what follows is a supplement that contains exercises and solutions. Those exercises and solutions pertain to the results in “Chapter 9.” They add to the exercises in Volumes 1 and 2. And they add to the solutions in Volume 2, which include the solutions to the exercises in Volume 1 as well as those to the exercises in “Chapter 8.”
