I (David Harville) have a PhD degree (from Cornell University) and have been engaged for my entire career in teaching, research, and other activities pertaining to mathematics and statistics. Among the areas in which I have specialized are linear statistical models and their applications in sports and other disciplines (including animal breeding). I served for 10 years as a mathematical statistician in the Applied Mathematics Research Laboratory of the Aerospace Research Laboratories at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, for 20 years as a full professor in Iowa State University’s Department of Statistics (where I now have emeritus status), and for 7 years as a research staff member of the Mathematical Sciences Department of IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center.
I am the author or co-author of more than 80 research articles. And I am the author of 3 books: Matrix Algebra From a Statistician’s Perspective, Matrix Algebra: Exercises and Solutions, and (most recently) Linear Models and the Relevant Distributions and Matrix Algebra. My work has been recognized through my election as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and as a member of the International Statistical Institute.
